SLUDGE FACTORY - PART I
so on facebook i'm in this group called the sludge factory so today i am reviewing the bands of some of the members of that group so i present dead hand and lint xxx
DEAD HAND
these guys are pretty fucking good i'll be honest. they're a doom/sludge 5 piece from georgia. the've got one main release storm of demiurge which is six tracks of doom/prog, sort of post-rock sludge. the actual song storm of demiurge is a 10 minute belter that builds up to a nice mix of strong vocals and melodic riffs that pop up out of nowhere and are reminiscent of 70s psych. theyve got this 2014 ep thats pretty rad aswell. the first track ground to ash its a bit heavier and gets straight into it and a lot more reliant on vocals. the last king is probably my favourite cos its back with those bluesy riffs and suddenly BAM you can't escape fast technical drums and doomy vocals, it feels like its on a lot of different levels. kind of remind me of the hardcore band hammers from manchester if they were a bit sludgier. that comparison is just because of the combination of powerful riffs and breakdowns with super strong vocals dotted around. some serious jams so give them a listen, and word on the grapevine is theyre releasing a full length album any day now. if i was you i'd keep your eyes peeled.
LINT
lint is a difficult one because through their four releases their vibe changes so much. the earliest is cell temple - a three track minimal demo sort of thing. its really original like as far as composition goes for a first release this is different and spot on. a nice mix of buildups and experimental tones. these 3 guys are from new south wales in oz so its not difficult to compare them to clagg or thumlock but theyre kind of somwehere inbetween the two and going in a different direction. heavy bass and fuzz but with familiar sabbathy riffs. then we move on to ships in the sky from 2011 and theres absolutely no messing about on this album. just listenin through it is pretty intense and a lot of experimental percussion that kind of reminds me of sleep's holy mountain. chilled psych followed by dirty riffs and heavy bass is winner winner chicken dinner for me. favourite track has gotta be the worm, last tune on the album proper solid riff and good tempo. next up is the 17 minute single transit of venus which was recorded during the actual transit of venus in 2012 which is pretty rad. this is more like cell temple with a long intense build up and some dirty heavy cymbals. oh shitt i take that back. after all that this sexy little riff comes in underneath. just blew my mind wasnt expecting that one. then it starts to build up again getting fuzzier n kind of grungey i'm only 8 minutes in this is a fucking great song. hmm i take back what i said about clagg and thumlock this is a different direction altogether, some really intense shit going on over here. hold the fucking phone i've just read on the site that this song is 100% improvised??? are you jokin or what? jesus christ. i'm terrified to listen to the newest album like songs theyve actually practiced. massive props to these guys for that wow. here it goes then ok so this album has grungey vocals which is pretty new for lint and its still got those exhausting drums and hooks, maybe more bassy but yeah i'm feeling it. earlier i said something about the vibe changing loads but now that ive kind of listened in depth it seems like a natural progression. compared to the other releases this album has a lot of clarity and direction which makes it nice to listen to from start to finish. its as if the first 3 releases have all shagged eachother and whats come out has been this monstrosity. the combination of all these elements is just class to hear when someone gets it right.
big ups to clifton carr and brad hayne.

CHIC FEAT. NILE RODGERS
this new tune is an absolute banger. nile rodgers premiered it on facebook on friday with some info about the 'i'll be there' movement about the decisions people make in life. well whoever decided to put karlie kloss in this vid is onto a weiner cos she is unimaginably lush

JOE WINIARSKI
i don't really know where this fits in i guess its a review i came across this guys videos a while ago while trawling on youtube in the depths of unheard doom eps and daft drum covers of old witchcraft songs. i found out he's called joe and he has a serious collection of especially fucking rad covers of psych, metal and stoner riff-heavy bangers on this weird sort of half banjo thing. its nice to hear some of my favourite tunes with this new 4th dimension goin on. definitely worth a listen so here is his youtube channel but this one is my favourite

PSYCHO CALIFORNIA - 2015
genuinely sickened by the combination of this lineup and how expensive it is to travel to america. i'm seein sleep at desertfest but i'd give both arms to see pentagram, om, earthless, bongzilla, stoned jesus, elder and fucking truckfighters in one day. thats just one fucking day how is this even legal. got to see pentagram soon cos i dont know how long bobby leibling can have left before the crack that has already melted his mind completely ruins whats left of his body

RADIO MOSCOW + COLOUR HAZE - PARIS 2015
this is probably the only good photo i got from this show cos i dont have a camera phone like its 2002. theres some more on a disposable in my wardrobe but who can afford that the$e day$ maybe one day i'll post them probs not tho theres a few of father john misty on it aswel. this was a proper class gig. the divan du monde in pigalle is like this backstreet venue near the moulin rouge and it was rammed with goths who were moshing everywhere and ruining the vibe a bit but radio moscow were incred, played a few of 'my favourite tracks' as my mam would say and finished with deep blue sea which is just somethin else live. i'll wack a link on at the end. apart from the doyles in the crowd i thoroughly enjoyed myself drinking v cheap wine and smoking tabs inside. by the time colour haze came on i was so drunk and up to my eyeballs in poppers it felt like their set was 5 years long. i'm not complaining tho it was sweet the sound was class and visuals were out of control, liquid light show made my brain melt a bit and the riff clarity was 4 out of 5 - would attend again
